Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies

The Association of Jewish Golf Clubs & Societies (the Association) was formed in 1947. The inter-war years had seen the formation of three Jewish Clubs – one in London and one in Leeds, both in 1923, followed by a new Club in Manchester in 1932. 1944 saw the formation of a Jewish Club in Dublin.
After the Second World War any hopes that Jewish golfers might be welcomed as members by long established golf clubs were quickly dashed. The farsighted Committees of the four Jewish Clubs agreed to form the Association which during the course of the next seven decades welcomed as members eight more Jewish Clubs and fifteen Jewish Societies.
The principal aims of the Association as stated within its Constitution are the promotion and encouragement of the playing of golf by persons of the Jewish religion and by Clubs and Societies which promote facilities for the playing of golf by persons of the Jewish religion.
In pursuit of its stated aims the Association currently organises and runs six annual tournaments for member Clubs and Societies augmented by two tournaments which are restricted to individual Jewish golfers.
